Trunk - Hip - Knee - Ankle - Foot - Orthosis This type of orthosis has similar indications to a HKAFO but with the added benefit of greater spinal alignment and more trunk motion control. Individuals who benefit most from these types of orthoses include: Individuals with neuromuscular diseases (Spina Bifida, MS, Muscular Dystrophy or other neurological impairments) Paraplegic individuals (spinal cord injuries) Those that have undergone hip replacements Those with certain degenerative diseases. People with Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) have neither voluntary movement nor feeling below their waist. legs will not support for standing or walking. We recommend the leg braces with spinal jacket appropriate to help stand and walk. These leg braces are custom built for every patient. Since they do not have any voluntary muscle movement in their legs, the movement of the leg braces is controlled by tightening the stomach muscles and shifting the weight with their arms which are holding onto a walker. Some people are able to use forearm crutches instead of a walker. That makes it easier for them to get through narrow doorways and even climb stairs if they can lift their own weight.
